Back to the Bathroom
You would be excused for thinking that the En-Suite bathroom was finished a long time ago, as it hasn't featured in the blog for many months (years probably). The fact is that, once it was able to fulfill it's purpose, all work stopped and it has been neglected ever since. However, it is far from finished, and Jan has just set me a double-headed challenge for the next two weeks. Part one is to do the grouting of the tiles inside the shower enclosure.
However, I was concerned that the tiling to one side, where one of the shower screen panels fits, is not very flat. In fact it is quite concave, and I don't think the U shaped aluminium channel into which the glass fits will be able to yield to the shape enough to form a good water seal.
In my defence, as the tiler, it is the wall that is out of kilter. However, to make amends I decided to have a tentative go at removing three of the tiles so that I can re-fit them in a better plane. I was shocked at how easily I was able to get them off. A couple of taps with a bolster chisel and lump hammer, and they just pealed of the wall in one piece :
In fact, for the upper two especially, the bonding to the bare plaster is not good at all. Before refitting I am going to use a watered down PVA solution to seal the wall.
