Chimney Breast Becoming Chimney Stack
In preparation for the chimney breast becoming a chimney stack, some extra angled flue pieces have been installled this week. Becasue the walls of the build are relatively thick, leaving the chimney flues in their straight up position would lead to a very wide and "heavy" looking chimey stack with offset pots. To avoid this further angled flue pieces have been installed to kink the flues further into the wall :
Bricks have been used, rather than the taller blocks, in order to step the inner wall inwards :
Unfortunately the angled flue pipes have taken a little more height to shift over than anticipated, so the transition has only just been achieved before they emerge from the roof. The white lintel to the left of the flues in the above pictures is what the chimey stack will be built off of. It is, in fact, slightly proud of the neighbouring roof timbers at this front edge, but by the time the batten and tile thickness is taken into account, and the lead flashings, it won't be seen.
Notice how, even in this obscure and hidden part of the build, the brickwork is of an excellent standard. We really can't fault the workmanship anywhere. We just wish it was a little quicker, but hey, you cn't ruish qulaity !
