Weekly Update

It seems to have come about that I am now publishing a weekly update. This is not deliberate, just a function, I think, of the fact that it is too dark for photos until the weekend.

Anyway, this week saw the demolishing of the wall between our old lounge and the conservatory. The measurements for the replacement window and door surrounds have been obtained, so the builders now know where the lintels etc need to go.

Unfortunately the foundations proved a little time consuming. Because of the increased thickness of the walls, the original foundations have had to be extended. The lie of the land at this corner of the house meant that a 5 ft deep hole had to be dug and filled with concrete to achieve this. here it is half dug, with the existing wall foundations to the left :

This was able to be built on in the latter part of the week, so the inner wall has been erected up to lintel height. The conservatory is supported with some home-made "pit props" and the wall will be built up in the gap behind it. You can see this clearly in this view from above :


At the front of the build, the inner wall has now been extended up to wall-plate height, with a gap for the dormer window that will be at the turn at the top of the stairs :
