Kitchen Plastering. Done.
The kitchen plastering is now complete and drying out nicely. This is good news, because we really need to get some paint on the walls as soon as we can. Ideally the decorating needs to be finished before the flooring goes down, and that is only 1 week away...
The current plan is that the flooring preparation is done in a weeks time on the 5th November, then the actual flooring laid on the 6th. On Monday 10th, the base units should be installed ready for the worktop people to come and make their templates on Wednesday 12th.
As well as the decorating we have some plumbing work to do, new radiators to hang, and maybe some remedial work on the subfloor. There is a lot for us to do, and not much time to do it...
I should say a little more about the flooring. We have been through many options, including real wood, engineered wood, stone, underfloor heating, but finally we have settled on a product called Karndean. It's a vinyl floor, but laid in planks, designed to represent an old wooden floor. The factory that makes it is in Evesham, which is not far from us, so we spent a couple of hours in their showroom looking at the options. The pattern we have chosen is dark and subdued without too much grain. We did not want anything with too much texture that would compete with the grainy timber kitchen units, and the wild patterning on our chosen worktops.
We are starting to get nervous about this now. Lot's of choices have been made, and in the next couple of weeks it is all going to start coming together and we just hope it all works as a whole, both visually, and as a functioning kitchen. Oh dear, stress levels are rising....
