Mosaic Tile Edging

The newly fixed mirror in the bathroom received its mosaic tile surround today.  Previously I have got in a right mess with these as they are generally thinner than the tiles that they surround.  I have ended up with a higgledy piggledy mess, despite the fact they are fitted in strips attached to a backing (or sometimes "fronting") sheet.  Not today though, because I have discovered these nifty sticky lattice pads :

You cut them to size and stick them to the wall, in multiple layers if you need to.  They are sticky on both sides so you then stick the mosaic strips on last, and use a relatively thin grout mix to force between the gaps.  The result is a really good flat finish with even gaps and the right level.  It seems very secure too, so I think enough grout must have squeezed into the lattice, and behind each mosaic tile to fix it :

I used grout powder and mixed it myself, but Jan prefers to use the ready mix stuff.  I don't see much difference to be honest - personal preference.  I think I am just a bit snooty about it - if the pros mix their own, then so will I.  If nothing else, it takes up less storage space.

PS.  The blogspot spell checker doesn't think much of the phrase " higgledy piggledy".  Haggled, giggled and jiggled are just some of the suggestions.  Even better, is its suggestion for correcting the spelling of its own name blogspot -> bloodsport !
