Bath / Shower Tiling
The tiling around the bath and shower area was done today. A very nice job, done pretty quickly. I am starting to think maybe tiling is one of those jobs best left to the professionals. It seems very straightforward, but when you start you realise the myriad of pitfalls. The pros just seem to get it done quickly and easily.
We have opted for ivory tiles on the soffit, and black below. At the break line is a band of glittery green mosaics, which you can't really see in the picture. You also can't see clearly, but these are oblong tiles laid in a brick bond pattern. I will get a close-up in a future post, and it may be easier to see if we go for a white grout. This is currently under debate between the various family members......
The white marks are either tile spacers, or the waxy blobs the manufacturers put on the tile face to protect the surface from scratching by the tile above in the packaging. These will be cleaned up when the grouting is done.
Note the plasterboard boxing in the bottom left of the picture. This hides the bath waste pipe and copper water feeds (hot/cold). Ideally we wanted to lose this under the floor, but the joists are wrongly orientated, so the only other option was to have the waste going out through the wall, and then outside. We chose this as the lesser of two evils.
There is more tiling to be done in the basin area, but they need us to install the flooring before they can fix the cupboard, and plumb in the basin. Tiling over there will have to be done last.
