Updates on This & That

Sorry about the lack of postings over the last couple of weeks, but some progress has been made.

Firstly, the problem with the water ingress through the double doors. We heard nothing more about this until a phone call came in from "accounts" asking us to pay our final bill. I pointed out why I was not paying it, and the next day the surveyor was at our door ! He agreed with me that a new, deeper cill would be needed to maintain the clearance over the wall for the drip groove. This will have to be specially made as we already have the deepest off-the-shelf cill that they do. The surveyor admitted that they had wrongly installed this on purpose, because they realised at the time that the cill piece was not deep enough. A pity he didn't come clean on his previous visit, when he offered me up the tube of sealant.

Two other trades have visited us in the last week. A plumber came last Sunday and is going to prepare a quote for doing the central heating. I know I was hoping to do this myself, but it is all going too slowly. The plasterer came on Tuesday to gauge the next part of the job and to give me a shopping list. He reckons the bedroom suite will be 5 days work. Hopefully he will be able to come and do this in 2 or 3 weeks time.

The electrician also spent a day finishing off the cabling in the basement room. This has enabled some of the "stuff" stacked in the middle room to be moved down, thus making the underside of the bedroom floor accessible to complete the cabling to the bedroom. This, of course, is another pre-requisite to the plastering. He is due here this Tuesday to do this.

As for Dad and I, we have plodded through some of the fiddly bits of studding and plasterboarding up in the bedroom area. All the door frames are now formed, though still in need of their linings, all the soffits and ceilings are done, and there are noggins in the wall to which the wash basin(s) can be securely attached (I never have liked attaching stuff just to the plasterboard). Still to complete before the plasterer can come - boarding of the reverse side of all walls (once the electrician has done his thing), lining of the doorways, lining the loft hatch, plasterboarding around the window reveals. Oh, and putting in the missing plasterboard screws - I have a habit of only putting a minimum number of screws in (enough to hold the board in place) so as to save screwdriver charge. At some stage I need to go round and fill the gaps. Sounds like a good evening's entertainment !
