Plasterboarding Update
Dad and I have worked for a couple of weekends now, on boarding out the new bedroom area, and I am conscious that I have not posted any updates.
It has been hard work, with quite a few soffits to do, with the double thickness of insulation, as in the previous room (100mm slab insulation between the roof timbers, 50mm over the top of everything, with the plasterboard screwed through it).
Here are some pictures :
Notice that the roof timbers on the smaller soffits are completely encompassed by the plasterboards, but at the front of the house (in what will be the en-suite bathroom) the large timbers supporting the gulley (I am sure they will have an official name, but I cannot think what it is) are exposed. Actually, we have had to cheat a little, because the levels on the two sides of these timbers are different. We have left off the 50mm of insulation on the shallow side in order to keep the plasterboard below the shoulder of the timber. This makes it less awkward and will hopefully look better than attempting to box in the whole thing. Of course, the insulation value is slightly compromised, but we are only talking about a small proportion of the overall area, so it shouldn't matter too much.
I have taken delivery of some acoustic insulation (mineral wool slab) so this weekend we should be able to get the walls boarded on one side. The reverse side needs to remain open until the electrics are done.
So far, we have used 19 sheets of 8' x 4' plasterboard, and this week 18 more arrived. I am also on the second box of 1000 drywall screws (though the first box served my daughters room too).

How are those 75mm dry wall screws going? There where concerns when these were first selected over the 100mm.
Steve.
Hi Steve. The 75's were only selected because I couldn't get any 100's, but now I have some (screwfix.co.uk) ! The 75's seem Ok, but there are a couple of areas where we are working now that the 100's will really be needed. It should be fine !
Cheers,
Steve
