Noggins

Today I put the noggins in place on one side of the wall separating the bedroom from the en-suite. In order to clear the back of the stud for the opposite side of the wall (remember that this wall uses offset studs to avoid any through-transmission path for noise) the noggins are turned through 90 degrees :


The noggins are offset alternately just to make nailing them easier. They oscillate about the half-height line in such a way that the tallest of the gaps (top or bottom) is an exact fit for the acoustic insulation that I bought.

I also spent a little time sorting out the awkward section around the edge of the fireplace. The stud spacing had the unfortunate effect of leaving a gap of about 6" between the last stud and the wall. I considered this too big to just leave a floating edge of plasterboard, so I have put four horizontal noggins which are nailed to this last stud then screwed into the side of the chimney breast
