Stock Control
Having chosen the radiators that we want, I tried to get one yesterday. I phoned a supplier in Gloucester and they said they kept a stock of this particular range, and that they had one in stock of the size I require.
Of course, I get over to the warehouse, on my half days leave, to find that they don't have it after all. The stock control system says it is there, but it isn't. I ran through a few other options in terms of sizes and fin layouts, to achieve the same heat output, but they had none of them either. They checked all the other local branches, but still none. So much for being a "stockist".
Plan B requires a visit to one of their competitors in Reading early tomorrow morning, on my way to work, where they supposedly have 9 in stock (and 7 of an acceptable alternative). Surely they can't lose that many ?
Today, I was supposed to be fitting said radiator on a day off. I have worked instead. The day off is now split, Thursday and Friday mornings, with the carpet fitters arriving Friday afternoon. Now that's what I call JIT scheduling !
