2007
Welcome to 2007 to all my readers. This is the third year of this project, so it really is time it was finished off !
Work started up again last week after the Christmas break. We had 3 or 4 builders on-site most of the week, concentrating once again on the new part of the build. The gable ends have been built up to the very top on the inner skin of the walls, and the padstones installed to carry the steel purlins.
There seems to have been a change of heart over the order of things. Originaly I thought the reason we were forced to move out of our lounge was so the walls could be built up to help support the new bits. However, this plan seems to have been abandoned now, which is a little annoying as we have spent 4 or 5 weeks with our biggest room out of action. I think the builders must have just wanted somewhere indoors for their tea breaks !
We have now more-or-less cleared out the room above the lounge too, so everything is ready for the modifications to the existing house. This means we are now reduced to living in the original four rooms of the house - a genuine 2 up 2 down Victorian cottage. cramped it is, fun it is not !
The plan for later today is to lift the two purlins into position. Once more I won't be around to witness this fun and games - I am in London today and tomorrow.
The roof timbers were delivered on Saturday, so once the purlins are in place the roof structure can be built.
