Site Clearance

The weather has been awful this week, but the Groundworks contractors showed up today to clear the site and mark out the positions for the piling.

They achieved the former, but not the latter. There is a slight problem in that we still only have the original plans. these show the dimensions for the foundations as they were, not as they will be. The bottom line is that we only know where the walls are going to be, not how the walls will be positioned on the beam and piles.

I made a call to the structural engineer, who was not available. A colleague said that new drawings had been done, but not yet been finally approved. I asked that this be done as a matter of urgency as the work starts Monday. However, the structural engineer is at a conference and cannot be contacted. I asked that his businees partner take a look, and approve their publishing, but he refused to do this.

I have been promised a call over the weekend. The Groundworks contractor will come back first thing Monday to mark out the site, assuming we have the information by then.

Instead of the marking, they have cut a track down the slope, and spread scalpings (stone chippings) to make access much easier. With the wet weather it had become a mud slide.
