I Don't Believe It !

Jan called the piling company rep again today and this time got through (at last !). Apparently he has been off sick and in his absence, one of the more senior people has taken a look at our project. He is not happy. He does not believe our structural engineer has properly taken into account the rotational forces on the retaining walls in the basement area. Apparently piles are not very good at resisting a rotational movement and he does not think they have been properly specified. For the side of the extension that is partially underground (North elevation) he is suggesting we may have to double the number of piles (!) and sink them in two parallel rows.

A discussion between this senior piling person and the structural engineer was suppsedly going to take place this afternoon, but we have not been party to this so do not know what has happened.
