Bathroom Day 1 - Arrival of the Professionals

Today was the first day of the professionals.  Tiles and plaster have been stripped from all the walls and work started on first-fit plumbing.  To avoid extra pipes on the outside of the house, the water and waste pipes are being boxed in behind the skirting. exactly as they were before, but hopefully this time done a little nicer.  The boxing is being done in plasterboard :

All that old soft dark plaster is probably going to have to come off, as it has on the other walls (see pictures below) so we are prepared for more dust to be wafting through the whole house.

While it would have been easier to put the pipework for the shower at the same end of the bath as before (behind the stud wall to the airing cupboard) the Ladies of the house wanted it moved to the other end, so pipework is being buried in the wall :

The new bath, as was the old, is slightly longer than the gap, so part of it will be buried in the wall, hence the partition wall ends short of the floor :

You can just see, on the right hand side of the wall, that the stonework gives way to red brick.  This is actually the edge of a bricked up fireplace which used to serve this room before it was split into a bathroom, corridor and airing cupboard (before our time).  It is always nice to uncover a bit of history, even if it is soon going to be buried again.

The plumbers work continues tomorrow, then we take over for a weekend of insulation, plasterboard and wiring.
