More on Dormers

The framework for the dormer window to the rear elevation has also now been constructed, along the same lines as the front one previously documented :


This one will be next to the original dormer on the old part of the house :

I was hoping that these would look the same, but had forgotten that the extra width of the new one makes a difference to the shape. The builders have (very correctly) decided to mimic the roof slope and height of the old dormer. Consequently the cheeks at the side of the dormer are considerably reduced (i.e. the valley between the slopes comes right down to the roof edge) - in fact they are reduced to the point of non-existence.

This is just another indication that you have to think very carefully about every little detail of a project like this.
