It is Down

Posted by Picasa
Demolition of the chimney is now done. I have reached ground level. There is still a slab and a couple of concrete blocks right at the bottom, but I figure the Groundworks contractor and his JCB will get that out in the blink of an eye compared with the time it would take me.
The rubble that remains belongs in the same category. I have barrowed much of it to the pit, and stored the re-usable stone and concrete blocks at various points around the garden (and at the alloment) but I reckon the contractor can shift the rest, or move it to a suitable location as hard-standing for delivered materials.
You can see from the picture, that I have left the original "throat" of the fireplace in position. It wasn't quite clear to me how structural this was. Part of it is a lintle above the fire opening, so I thought I would leave this parts removal to the experts. Anyway - I have run out of time !
In theory, work on the foundations begins tomorrow........
I promise not to mention the chimney again. Well, not until they build us a new one as part of the extension !
