Bookcase Installation
The furniture maker came today, with the electrician who will be responsible for integrating the lighting. I thought he was just coming to check electrical connections and things like that, but it turned out that the bookcase is finished and they were here to start installing it. So we have a bookcase being installed at one end of the house and a chimney breast being removed at the other end.
The base was delivered in three separate sections. Here they are lined up, ready to be pushed back into the alcove :
Unfortunately it turns out that the alcove tapers inwards slightly (narrower at the back), so it looks like the skirting boards to the sides will need to come off. In any case, there is a slight tolerance around the two sides. Once installed, small fillets of scribed timber will be inserted and painted to match the walls.
The whole thing has adjustable feet, so it can be leveled by turning screw-heads from inside the cupboards. These heads will be covered over with fillets of timber once installation is completed and the legs are hidden by the front plinth
You can just make out the cables from three transformers that will drive the LED lighting in the units above. Currently these are all fitted with 13amp plugs for testing, but eventually they will be wired into the cable coming down the wall from the original wall light. This means that the lights will be controlled from the standard room light switch, which is a nice touch.
Here is a close up of the left hand unit, which will contain 4 filing drawers :
and one of the drawers :
Note the dovetail construction, both front and back.
