Decided to Build a Log Store
Dotted around the garden we have various random piles of logs, mostly out in the open, getting wet when it rains. These are supposed to be for our log burners, but wet logs, however long ago they were cut and split, do not a good fire make. A log store is long overdue.
I took a look at some in local garden centres and specialist suppliers, but couldn't find anything that exactly met my needs, so I decided to build one.
Start point was a pallet and a half, screwed together and designed to be exactly the depth of our shed :
From parts of the old pre-extension roof, I had some 2" x 4" timbers, so these were ripped down the middle to make 2" x 2" spars for the framework :
Construction is rough and ready, screwed butt joints. No fancy housing joints here :
At this point the freebie timber runs out so I purchased some treated gravel board from a local supplier to make the slats. Note the temporary diagonal to maintain squareness during construction :
Here are two view of it by end of day :
At this point the framework is still not attached to the pallets. This will be done in-situ, to make installation easier. As it will be up against the shed it will be obvious if it is not square, level and vertical (assuming that the shed is all those things !).
