Pegging

Fixing the pegs over the screw holes is simply a case of a smear of glue, and a tap with a hammer :

Followed by cutting it as close to flush as possible with a craft saw from my modelling days as a teenager :
Then pairing it down with a sharp chisel and a plane set on a very shallow cut, finishing off with a sandpaper on a block.  I used a fairly course paper as this is supposed to be walked on, so I don't want it to be super-smooth and slippery.

Another coat of Osmo Polyx oil will hopefully harmonise the colour a little.

I only made a mistake with one (the first), having forgotten to align the grain.  It was a hard job to get it out, even though it had only been in place a few seconds and it was damaged beyond reuse.

All done in my lunchbreak.
