Lower Deck Day 3

The frame is now finished and the deck boards are now being screwed down, running downslope away from the house.  This is perpendicular to the boards of the upper deck, but we don't think this will be an issue.  A permeable (or should that be pervious, or even porous ? - desperately trying to remember my O-level geology here) weed membrane goes down first :




The guys on site had a good idea for the area where the waste pipe comes down the slope by the side of the house.  They are raising the deck at this point, so it is a bit like a seat or a table.  It is being made bigger than it needs to be, so it looks more intentional, and less like an attempt to box in something inconvenient.  Time will tell if this works or not.  Here you can see the framework for that under construction :


The plants for the bank have also arrived today, and been strategically (or maybe randomly) placed in readiness for planting :


These will need to be temporarily protected from the Roe and Muntjac deer that are frequent visitors to our garden, and will certainly like new springtime shoots on fresh plants.  We have netting on order.....
