Decking Steps

We have been sidetracked again. We employed a friend of Jan's to do a garden design for us and one of the items proposed is a 90 degree turn and landing in the steps leading down from the deck.

Because the levels haven't really been sorted out, currently the steps finish in thin air, requiring you to step off sideways to the lawn, or fall 18" to the ground. Jan has a party coming up to celebrate her birthday so we have (she has) decided that it is time to implement this small part of the garden plan.

We started by cutting away the bank, then constructed the landing supported temporarily on sections of breeze-blocks tamped into the ground :




We followed the existing construction methods to ensure it blends in. There is nothing clever or technical about the wood joints - they simply butt up against each other and are fixed with varying lengths of decking screw.

The bottom section of steps followed :






Finally it was CAT tested :
