Another Builder

Things may be looking up. Another builder came round this morning and said he was interested in quoting for the remaining work. He comes recommended, which is encouraging.

I was pondering today on my way home from work. Three years ago, house prices were much lower than they are now - probably ~50%. That time has also been a period of low inflation. Given the relative rate rises it ought now be relatively cheap to build a house, compared with it's final value. This appears not to be the case. The building costs have risen comensurate with house price inflation. Either the construction industry has hiked it's daily rates, or the suppliers of raw materials have pumped up their prices in advance of inflation.

Probably a bit of both. Either way it is very irritating.
