Door to Sitting Room

The joiner has finished making the frame of the door into the sitting room, and subcontracted it's fitting to a local builder.  He came today and fitted the frame.  It turned out to be a really good fit, so the measuring must have been spot on, because the aperture isn't particularly straight level or square.  We have opted for a wide single door, with a side panel on each side.  Each side panel is divided into 4 the upper 3 of which will be glazed and the lower one with a flat wooden panel.  So, it really mirrors what was done for the front door frame.

The frame is mounted on top of the oak floor for the dining room, and hence is fitted flush with the sitting room side of the wall :

The walls of the aperture will have to be repainted as they are currently in the colour of the wrong room :

Another reason for placing the frame flush with one of the walls is that the centre of the aperture is taken up with the light switches.  In fact the clearance to the switches is quite small :

Ideally we would move this switch but I happen to know that there are a huge number of cable connections behind there.  I think I mentioned before in this blog, that the electrician chose to make all the lighting connections at the switch rather than at the light end.  So behind here we have 11 cables - 6 wall lights, 2 ceiling lights, two for double switching and one to bring in the power.  I don't even want to take the face plate off that lot, let alone try and move it.  It is staying where it is !
