Air Vent Covers

In my 10th December 2009 blog entry I described the installation of our wood-burning stoves and how we had to have permanently-open fresh air vents to feed them. At the time, I described the fact we are not permitted to have slide-closing covers over these as "complete madness" and vowed to do a post-install modification to replace the ugly plastic vents with nice closable ones.

Today, that day came. Jan ordered closable polished brass covers, so the first task was to get rid of the plastic ones and clean up the wall behind, where it appears two attempts were made to drill the vent hole through the wall :

With some filler, sanding, paint, and the new brass cover, everything is much better :

Of course, it no longer meets with building regulations, because we have the option of closing it, but we will cross that bridge when (if) we come to it.
