Another Ceiling Finished (?)

We are hosting Christmas Dinner this year, so have strived to get the ceiling in our new dining room (the old lounge) completely plasterboarded. Today it was completed. It won't exactly be luxury dining, but at least there won't be looms of cable hanging in our turkey !

Looking towards the stairs and the front door :

And along the hallway (underside of the landing):

The only section of ceiling remaining is outside the cupboard in the background of that last picture. I need to be sure that all required cables are in place, and that the old basin wastepipe is fully supported (currently it is not). It is also awkward as the far joist is above the stud wall that forms the cupboard and cannot be reached for attaching the new ceiling boards. I am going to have to install a sequence of nogins to support the far edge.

Speaking of "awkward", this room has been quite time consuming to board because of the use of joist hangers. I think I have mentioned before in this blog that the joist hangers were installed by the builder without too much attention to detail. Ideally the "hanging" joist should be notched to give a flush finish to the underside. In our case this was not done and as a consequence I have had to accommodate the metalwork in housings reamed from the back of the plasterboard in order to prevent the boards from breaking.

This small section, for example, has 7 out of the 8 hangers protruding below the joist level :

A piece of plasterboard like this was required to fit there :

Obviously, preparing and fitting this takes considerably longer than if it was simple cut-n-fit.
