Builder Update

I spoke to the builder today. It is ok - he has not lost interest - just been severely delayed on current jobs by the cold weather.

He is not going to be able to start for another 4 to 5 weeks. The plan is for him to come round some time in the next couple of weeks to do a site visit and to talk over some of the things that may still need decisions. The stairs, anything we need to do about windows and doors, how he is going to work with the roofer etc. At that time he should be able to give us a firm start date.

I also asked how long he was expecting it to take. He wasn't sure but will consider the plans and come armed with that information.

We talked a little about how the job will be done. The blockwork inner skin is fast to build, but the stonework much slower. He thinks he will get the whole place scaffolded to full height at the beginning and, once the inner walls are up, we should get the roofer in to waterproof it (rafters and felt). The stonework can be built up afterwards. We did not discuss how the alterations to the existing house would be integrated into the job - hopefully this is something we can pick up at the site meeting.

It was good to finally make contact. I have to confess that I was beginning to get a little nervous about it.
