Revised Plan
The steelwork was placed today, and the concrete ordered for Thursday. Unfortunately I was too late home to photograph, so the pictures will have to wait until tomorrow.
The groundworks contractor was slightly worried about the ceiling height in the basement, but became calmer once it was pointed out to him that there are steps down into our current conservatory - the floor of which he was lining up with the new ceiling !
I have a slight concern about the positioning of the row of blocks shown in the first photograph from yesterdays entry (those with the gaps for the French Windows). I took some measurements by torchlight and it looks to me like the blocks are further over on the beam at one end than they are at the other. I do not believe this in itself is a problem, however, I think it may mean that, at one end, the outer stone skin of the finished house wall will be off of the edge of the beam. I am assuming that the blocks form the inner wall of the cavity, but I could be wrong. Something to be followed up tomorrow.
