Overdue Update
Sorry folks, an update is overdue. I have had a bad back, and sore throat and have generally felt sorry for myself, but enough excuses.
The ground test results were quickly returned to us and confirmed what we learned on the day. Twelve test holes were made in total and all but one of them came to a point labelled "refusal". This is the point where 50 blows will not move the probe 100mm or more. i.e. bedrock. The tweflth test was kicked side-ways and abandoned. I will reproduce one of the graphs, and the underground profiles that were drawn from the test holes, later in the week. Average depth of the rock is 5.5m below the excavated floor level.
The current position is that both the Structural Engineer and the Consultant from the piling company need to put their heads together and decide on the size and separation of the piles, and the nature of the structure that will sit on top. This meeting of minds should have happened by now, but I have not heard back from either of them. The plan is still to do the piles for our project immediately after the other job locally, which starts this Wednesday. Before that, though, we need an estimate of the additional cost.
