Pipe Easing

This week's evening activity has been to run around all the copper pipe work installed for the Central Heating, lining the holes where they pass through joists. This will hopefully stop all the creaking that you often hear when the pipes are heating and cooling. I have used small strips of carpet, wrapped all the way around the pipes and pushed into the holes.

In some instances though, a lack of accuracy by the installation contractors, has led to some very tight pipe runs, with no chance of getting anything into the gaps. Here is an example :

A laborious amount of effort with a hand fret-saw and chisel has eased the pipe on the right. The one on the left, yet to be done, is wedged tightly up against the top of the hole. This process is very time consuming and also irritating. The main reason for getting in the professionals rather than doing the heating ourselves was to save time, and here we are wasting it again.
