Staircase Sold
I am amazed. The old staircase was sold on eBay for £112 ! It spent most of the week it was listed with a single bid at the start price of 99p. However, as predicted there was a bit of a frenzy towards the end. With an hour to go it was sat at £30 which then rose to £80. It then put on over £30 in the last 40 seconds. It was eventually won by an eBay "sniper" - someone who waits until the last few seconds before submitting their one and only bid and "stealing" it from the other bidders that have been fighting over it.
To be honest I was just pleased that finally we would be able to move it out of the house - getting any amount of money for it is a bonus. The one slight down-side is that the winner has not yet contacted me about payment or collection arrangements. Still, one of the other bidders has already sent me a message to state a continued interest, if things go pear shaped.
I am taking some time off of work at the moment, so have turned attention back to the plasterboarding of the landing. I am still working on lining the dormer window. Hopefully it will be finished tomorrow. This picture shows the right hand side part constructed :
The insulation infill between the roof timbers, then a further layer, followed by the plasterboard can be clearly seen. These particular roof timbers seem to be very hard and I am having trouble driving the dry-wall screws in. I am using 100mm screws to reach through all the layers, but because of their length, these are a larger diameter screw than the shorter ones. They therefore take more effort to drive. A dab of vaseline on the threads helps, but there are still some that I have simply had to take out and replace with the narrower 75mm screws, which are barely long enough.
I'll be glad when this fiddly area is done and I can make some major progress with straightforward rectangular sheets - that is until I reach the dormer at the other end of the landing......
