Central Heating Gets off to a Stuttering Start

The heating contractors were supposed to show up between 10:00 and 11:00 on the first day (Monday), but did not appear until around 13:30. By 16:15 they had drilled 11 & 1/2 holes and left for the day.

To be fair, because neither of the lads had been to the house before, we spent some time going through the plans and agreeing pipe runs, agreeing that it could be done in copper and sorting everything out.

The feeds for upstairs radiators will be taken through the noggins on the underside of the landing corridor. There is a step in the corridor, so the first run is easy, just feeding through the step towards the boiler cupboard :

There are 4 holes as this will also take the hot/cold water feed to the new bathroom.

Looking the other way there are two more noggins that were drilled today (but this photo was taken yesterday), then through the old cavity wall into the new part of the house :

On the other side of this wall, the joists go the other way, so these have to be carefully drilled with the pipes being passed through the wall into the series of lined up holes in the joists :

Again, the holes were done today, but the photo taken yesterday.

They were late to show up again today, but one of the lads had a death in the family, so that's fair enough. Things should move on apace tomorrow, especially as all the rads and the boiler have now been delivered.

One other thing to report from today - Jan and I are still debating (arguing !) about the layout of the new bathroom, even though it was supposedly agreed at the point wires were pulled through for lights & shaver point etc. We have sought arbitration - someone from the local bathroom showroom came up today to take a look and do a design for us.
