Wet
The weather was wet today, and the manhole rings did not come, so not much has happened. The concrete slab under the next underpinning site was done, and the Building Inspector came out to check it (standard practice), but that was all. The rain caused a few mudfalls into the big hole, but nothing major.
I took a good look at the plans this morning to see what is scheduled to happen to the front and back walls of our existing lounge. These walls are currently rendered, but need to be done it Cotswold stone, and extended upwards to raise the roofline. I wasn't sure how this was going to be done. It looks like it has been designed as a rebuild on the existing foundations, subject to their inspection and assessment as to their suitability. We can get a good idea of what these foundations are like by looking at the adjacent wall - the one currently being underpinned. The foundations here are now exposed and comprise basically about 9 inches of steel reinforced concrete.
I spoke to the Buildings Inspector about this while he was here. He is happy that the current excavations show that these foundations are resting on rock, so consequently does not envisage any problems with re-using them.
In case you are getting confused about where all this activity is taking place, don't forget that you can see some of the Detailed Plans for this project by following the link at the top right hand side of this blog.
