Deeper !

Delivery of the manhole rings is expected today so digging started in earnest this morning. However it soon became clear that the solid rock we are looking for was not to be found after 5 further feet, as expected, and documented in my 15th August entry. As you can see from the picture, we now have a very deep hole, and no sign of solid ground yet....

The problem now is that the deeper you dig, the more the sides cave in. Anyone who has ever dug a big hole at the beach (hasn't everyone ?) will recognise this. It is just on a bigger scale.

This is very bad news. I will blog again this evening with an update.
