Window Fitting (Again)
Some windows were fitted this morning ! In fact, we have two more than we were expecting, more through luck than judgement. You may remember that the windows had to be ordered in two batches because when the initial measuring was done, some of the mullions were not installed and measurable. Today, we were expecting the first batch, comprising 11 individual windows. However, the van turned up with 18. It appears that some of the windows had, due to an administrative error, been double-ordered. This was to our advantage, as two of them happened to be the right size for two of the openings from the second batch.
The window frames are very simple, each being constructed to fit into an individual mullion. There are three types, and we have utilised examples of all of them - a fixed panel, a side-hung opener, and a top hung opener. They are shaped to fit into a reveal built into the moulding of the mullions. Installation is simple :
Step 1 : run some sealer round the reveal :
Step 2 : pop the window panel in place, and drill securing holes in the mullions through the hole already present in the frames. This takes a rawl-plug (which I had to supply as the fitters came without any !) :
Here is how the finished window looks :
The good news is that the new room at the top has it's full compliment of windows, so is now completely weather tight.
